'I can't sit still long enough to do just one thing – I discovered a long time ago that I need variety in my work to make working, work for me. Constantly changing my daily occupation keeps all of them fresh.
You could say I'm a Jill of all trades and mistress of none – it works for me!'
photographer, singer, teacher, Funeral celebrant, Journalist, filmmaker, artivist…
if you can be anything: be generous…
Eve Jeffery, aka the Tree Faerie, aka Gypsy Le Fay has always sung – it was just always there, loud and proud…
She has been a writer and photographer since her teen years in Melbourne and has been taking photos for The Echo for 20 years.
Her background in theatre, dance, puppetry, television and probably one too many days as a vocalist in a rock band rehearsal room, have allowed her to view the entertainment industry from both sides – among other things she is the Seven Entertainment editor at The Echo, having interviewed national and international musos and personalities – everyone from Peter Garrett, Jack Johnson, and Ben Harper, to Tim Finn, Tommy Emmanuel, Steve Earle and Rickie Lee Jones, and so many more.
Eve found herself drawn to guiding people through the funeral process in 2016, while photo journalling the last days of her friend Greg and spending time with his beloved Angela and their children, Eve was part of the arrangement of the funeral and this once again changed her course – since then she has celebrated the lives of many folk, an unexpected turn in her path.
2020's COVID-19 pandemic saw Eve find herself with way too much spare time, so she returned to teaching in Vocal Coaching and Singing with both the Brunswick Valley School of Dance and as the founder of Byron Bay Singing.
Eve is also an artivist, who with partner David Lowe, has gathered a small armful of awards creating music videos, short films and a feature doco in the fight against CSG and the Coalmonster as half of Cloudcatcher Media.
A well-spent youth as a little athlete, an A-Grade netballer, a one-eyed Collingwood supporter and fifth-form PE have added that pinch of sporting mongrel.
Eve was a single mother to the ‘best kids on the planet’ from 1992. She raised an activist/midwife and a ballerina, in that order. She has lived on the north coast since 1995, and loves and adores being part of what she considers the unique and very special Echo Publications family, to whom she has belonged for over 20 years. Eve is an advocate for peace, for justice, for dignity in death and after, for quality and community unity, and dignity in mental health care. After a very scary scare in 2024, she's also a poop test nagger. Have you done yours? Eve is also a very annoying vegan, and the grandmother to two Italian Greyhounds…
